Renewals and PAST DUE

For fans — when a subscription renews, what it costs, and what actually happens when a renewal payment fails

A subscription renews on its own, charging the card you saved when you subscribed. The Subscriptions tab of your Following screen shows the next renewal date and the amount on each row, for example Renews 9 Oct · $9.99.

The amount is the price of the plan version you bought. A creator raising their price does not change what you are charged on an existing subscription.

The renewal charge

The renewal is made without you present, using the standing authorisation recorded when you first entered your card. That is why a subscription cannot be paid from an EVVA balance, and why a trial asks for a card up front.

You are not asked to approve a renewal — the standing authorisation you gave when you first entered your card covers it. The next renewal date and the amount are on the row itself.

What PAST DUE means

If a renewal payment does not go through, the subscription is marked PAST DUE and the row reads:

“Your last payment did not go through. Access continues for now.”

PAST DUE is not a state to settle into. Access continues while the row says it, but the period you are in was not paid for — deal with the payment rather than leaving the subscription as it is.

What you can do about a PAST DUE subscription

One way to get a renewing subscription back is to start a fresh one with card details that work:

  1. Cancel the PAST DUE subscription from the Subscriptions tab — see Cancelling a subscription.
  2. Subscribe again from the creator’s profile and enter the card details you want to use. That saves the card and records the standing authorisation afresh — see How do I subscribe to a creator?.

Two things to know before you do that:

  • A free trial does not come back. If you used the creator’s trial already, subscribing again is at the usual price.
  • An introductory price is once per plan too. If you took one, the new subscription is at the standard price, and EVVA refuses rather than quietly charging you the higher amount without saying so.

If the renewal charge appears on your statement but the app disagrees

The app only learns the outcome of a payment when the payment provider reports it. Your bank can show a charge before EVVA shows the subscription as renewed. See How paying works on EVVA.
