Choosing the cover and reordering a post's media
For creators arranging several files on one post — which one becomes the cover, how to move files, and why reordering uses buttons.
The first file is the cover. There is no separate cover setting: move a file to the front of the strip and it becomes the cover. The composer states it under a multi-file post — “3 files · the first one is the cover.” — and marks that tile Cover.
With a single file, the note reads “One file · shown at its own aspect ratio, never cropped.”
Reordering
Each tile has two buttons: Move earlier and Move later. Press Move earlier on the file you want as the cover until it is first.
Reordering is done with those two buttons rather than by dragging, on purpose: a drag with no keyboard equivalent is a control that a keyboard or screen-reader user cannot use at all. The buttons work for everybody.
Order is saved as one complete arrangement, not as a series of swaps, so the strip you see is the order fans get.
Adding and removing files
- Upload from device — “Photos, video, audio”. See What you can upload to EVVA.
- Add from Vault — “Reuse what you already have”. Pick files you have already uploaded; nothing is re-uploaded or copied.
- Remove takes a file off this post. It does not delete it from your library — it stays in your vault and on any other post that uses it.
A file can only be on a post once. Adding it twice says That item is already attached.
A post holds at most 20 files. The composer says You can attach up to 20 items; the server refuses the 21st with “A post may hold at most 20 attachments. Detach one before adding another.” A direct message holds at most 10.
A file must finish processing before it can be attached
A tile showing Uploading… or Processing… is not attachable yet, and the publish button waits for it: “Waiting for your media to finish processing…”. See What happens to your files after you upload them.
”The post changed somewhere else”
If you have the same post open in two tabs, or on a phone and a laptop, the second one to save its order is refused rather than overwriting the first. Nothing is written when that happens.
You see “The post changed somewhere else. Reopen it and try again.” in the composer, or “This post’s media changed elsewhere. It has been reloaded.” on a post’s media card.
Reopen the post, check the order is what you want, and arrange it once more from there.
