Editing and deleting messages
For anyone who sent something they regret — the 15-minute edit window, and why delete removes the message for both people.
You can edit a message you sent for 15 minutes after sending it. After that, the only option is to delete it, which removes it for both of you.
Editing
Open the message’s action menu and choose to edit it. You can change the text.
Editing is refused if any of these is true:
- You are not the person who sent it.
- The message has already been deleted.
- More than 15 minutes have passed.
- The thread moved on and your app is showing an older version of the message — reload the chat and try again.
- You could not lawfully send that text right now. If the other person has since blocked or muted you, you cannot use an edit to get a new message through.
In every case the message reads “Message cannot be edited”, so the text itself will not tell you which of the five applies. Check the clock first, then reload.
Editing changes the text. It does not change what the message is: a priced message stays priced, and attachments stay as they were.
Deleting
Deleting a message is called retracting it, and it is the honest name.
Delete removes the message for both people. There is no “delete for me” on EVVA. If you delete a message, it disappears from the other person’s chat too.
Only the sender can delete their own message, and there is no time limit on it. The message is then simply absent from the thread rather than left as a “message deleted” placeholder. If anyone had replied quoting it, every one of those quotes shows as withdrawn at once.
Deleting also releases any files that were attached, which is what lets a creator delete those files from their Vault afterwards.
Deleting the same message twice is harmless — the second attempt does nothing.
